Page 38 of Teasing Annie (The Temptation Saga 2)
Beside Dusty stood a very tall and attractive man with sandy brown hair. âThis is my brother, Sam,â Dusty said. âSam, Dr. Annie DeSimone.â
âDustyâs told me a lot about you.â He held out his hand.
âItâs nice to meet you.â Annie took his hand. Strong grip. No spark. Bummer for Dustyâs plan.
âHey, dog.â The happy drawl of Chad McCray echoed behind Annie. Although he was the youngest McCray, he was the tallest, and his hair was dark brown, not black like Dallas and Zachâs. His facial features were similar though. Grade A stud, like the others.
âChad, you know Annie?â Sam said.
âSure he does,â Dusty said. âThey met at the Bay ranch.â
âYouâre lookinâ good, Doc,â Chad said. âCan I get you something to drink?â
âUh, sure,â Annie said.
âWeâve got soda, water, iced tea, beer,â Dusty said. âWeâll have wine with dinner.â
; âIced teaâll be fine for now,â Annie said.
âIâll be right back,â Chad said, giving her arm a squeeze.
âI see youâve caught his eye,â Sam said, smiling.
âNot really. Weâve only met once.â
âThatâs all it takes for Chad. He does like the pretty ladies.â Sam took a drink of his beer.
Annie curled her lips upward into a smile that she hoped didnât look too fake. She wished she had asked Chad for a beer. She saw him returning with her iced tea, and then jumped as something nudged her from behind. She turned to see Dallasâs dog, Jet, sniffing her. âHey, fella,â she said, kneeling down to pet his happy face.
âHere you are.â Chad leaned down to hand her the drink. âYou know this mutt?â He gave Jetâs ears a squeeze.
âSure. Itâs Jet. Dallasâs dog.â
âOh.â Chadâs eyes widened for an instant. âYeah, heâs a good boy. Iâve got his sister from the same litter.â
âReally? Iâd love to meet her sometime.â
âAnytime. Sheâs great. Her nameâs Marnie. In fact, sheâs due for an annual. Iâll bring her in to see you next week.â
âIâll be glad to look at her,â Annie said. âI love all animals, but dogs are my favorite.â
âDonât tell anyone, because Iâm the resident horse and cattle expert on the McCray ranch, but theyâre my favorite too.â His smile caused cute little crinkles around his brown eyes. âUh-oh.â
âWhat?â
âDonât look now, but weâre getting the evil eye.â
âWhat are you talking about?â
âDallas. Behind you.â
Annie scoffed and rolled her eyes. âDallas is hardly my concern.â
Chadâs full lips twisted into a lazy grin. He reached toward her and softly stroked her upper arm with one finger. âIâm right glad to hear that, Dr. Annie.â
Annie smiled. âIâve heard youâre the biggest flirt in the four corner states, Chad.â
